The upright, slender posture of Runners sets them apart from other ducks and once gave them the nickname “penguin ducks." They carry their body at an angle of 45 to 75 degrees above horizontal. They have a long history of being herded, and after many generations evolved into ducks that could travel long distances at a quick pace. They are the most energetic ducks and will forage most of the day. Runner Ducks are also an excellent egg layer, at times outperforming some chickens breeds. Runner ducks lay white to bluish-green eggs.
