Black Sex Link Day Old Chicks

A beautiful yet highly productive layer of large brown eggs? Yes, please! If you raise chickens mainly for egg production, Black Sex-Link chicks are the perfect addition to your flock.

The Black Sex-Link hen’s feathering has stunning shades of deep, shimmery beetle green. Mostly black overall, hackle and breast feathers may sometimes have shades of mahogany, rust, or golden coloring. The Black Sex-Link is a hybrid with a primary focus on egg production and the sex of the day-old baby chicks can be determined by their feather color when they hatch.

The Black Sex-Link Hybrid has a single, tight comb, so this hybrid is hardy in both cold and warm climates. Legs and feet are white to gray. Eggs are large to extra-large size and medium brown color, with hens laying 5-6 times a week.

Read more about how a Sex-Linked Hybrid chicken is developed on the Meyer Hatchery blog.

This breed is a hybrid. Hybrids are created by crossing two different parents and will not breed true. Crosses are generally created for vigor and production qualities, but also for desired traits such as egg color or feather patterns. Meyer Hatchery does not disclose what breeds we use to create our designer breeds as that is considered proprietary knowledge.
