Delaware Day Old Chicks

Delaware Chickens were originally developed in the state of Delaware in the 1940s, by crossing Barred Plymouth Rocks and New Hampshire Chickens. In the days before the Cornish-Rock Cross, they were the most popular broiler birds and are still a top pick for those looking for a sustainable heritage breed flock.

Delaware's are a beautiful, mostly white bird, with black and white tail and neck feathers. This dual-purpose breed features excellent egg production, around 4-6 brown eggs per week, and has superior meat characteristics. Read more about the Delaware Chicken on our Breed Spotlight over on the Meyer Hatchery Blog.

Average mature weight: Roosters 8 1/2 lbs., Hens 6 1/2 lbs.
