The Welsummer is a rare breed of chicken that originated in Holland. They are a hardy and adaptable breed that does well in any environment. They are excellent foragers and you can expect 3-5 eggs per week. Their eggs range in color from a reddish-brown to mahogany in color with varying amounts of brown speckles. No two eggs are alike which makes them a sought-after addition to any egg basket.

IMPORTANT ORDERING INFORMATION: Meyer Hatchery offers started chickens in limited quantities for shipping or for pick up in Polk, Ohio. We recommend placing your order early in the season for the best selection. Don’t forget to bring a box or other container for transportation from the hatchery to their new home. We can also ship started birds directly to your local post office. Meyer Hatchery will pack and ship the birds in an approved USPS shipping container, include a gel supplement to keep your birds hydrated in transit, and ship them express for overnight delivery to most locations.

Started chickens are approximately 16-20 weeks of age. They are fully vaccinated, beak trimmed, floor raised, and treated for intestinal worms.

Due to conditions beyond our control; such as feed, environment or lighting, we are unable to guarantee the production rate and/or start of production of these birds.
