Yellow Golden's are a mutation of the Golden Pheasant with origins in Italy and have been breeding true since the middle of the 1950s. These beautiful birds do quite well in aviaries and require an abundant amount of natural shade, as direct sunlight may dull their vibrant yellow color.

Yellow Golden Pheasants are an excellent breed to raise for beginners. They can easily be kept in an aviary with little or no shelter, even in the cold winter months. They are excellent foragers and consume a diet of berries, seeds, grains, and insects along with a regular supplement of standard game bird feed.

Breeding season is April to June. One male will breed with several females. A clutch consists of 8 to 12 creamy tan colored eggs and hatch in approximately 23 days. It is advised to provide as much natural surroundings as possible for this breed.

The Yellow Golden Pheasant males have a body length of 35 to 41 inches, with the females being smaller and the tails accounting for almost half of their total length. Life expectancy is approximately 13 to 20 years in captivity and 5 to 6 years in the wild.
